Kate, Adviser for Citizens Advice Calderdale | Housing and Benefits problems – a holistic approach
Our client came to us in distress following a decision to reduce her housing benefit, this was due to the change in law regarding under occupancy rule. The situation led to the client getting into arrears with her rent. Having serious mental health problems, the situation exasperated the client’s health and well-being, as she worried about the debt and eviction.
Citizens Advice Calderdale addressed all aspects of the client’s situation and as a result she was supported by an Adviser in a holistic way. The Adviser referred her to Housing Options and supported her throughout the process. This led to the client being re-housed in a suitable one bed-roomed property and putting together a realistic and more affordable option to repay the rent arrears on the previous property.
Kate, Adviser, Citizens Advice Calderdale commented on the outcome of the case by saying that the support helped take away the strain from the client and by discussing the available options gave her more control over the situation.
